Music And The Beast Within

This weekend has been a rough one for me. My daughter’s had company and I’m not sure I’m really ready to have ‘another body’ in the house. I’ve been tolerating it because I don’t want to let my problems interfere with my daughter’s social life. I’d rather have her friends over here than have her gadding about until all hours. I have enough to worry about.

I’ve been playing an Internet radio station for most of the day. I found that the songs of the 70s and 80s help keep my ‘Beast’ at bay for a while. I can focus on doing something constructive on the computer and still have another body in the house if I listen to some light music. To my great surprise, it’s not the intense songs that got my attention, but the lighter ones, by artists like Eddie Rabbit and Jerry Reed, as well as the Police, Journey and others. I’ve lost count of the ones I’ve listened to in the last few days that have set my toes tapping and a bit of a grin to cross my face.

I think what I find funniest is that the biggest help has been the disco tunes that have been played. I get up every so often to get a fresh coffee and up and down a flight of stairs for that, of course, but I also find myself dancing in my chair or actually getting up to dance… *lol* Well, okay, I call it dancing. You may not. I don’t know if it’s the exercise or the music, but I’m feeling … well, maybe not pretty good, but like I’m in control of the situation. I can live with that.
