It Didn’t Blow Up!!

Well, I have the new power supply installed into the G4 and it seems to work. The specs for the new one are less than what I had on the old one. I’m not sure how that’s going to affect the computer’s operation, though.

The girls and I took an hour to switch the power supplies. Once we had the old one out, the new one went in quite easily. It was both harder and easier than we thought. The hard part was trying to remember where I stashed the allen keys. And getting all the cables out through that little hole. But we managed and we’re feeling rather proud of ourselves.

Now that my computer is back on-line, I have to pick up a couple of ethernet cables and see if we can get the router to work. I haven’t the foggiest notion of how to do that, but I’ll figure it out eventually. The hard part, for me, will be trying to understand the firewall. I know how they work, in general principle, but I haven’t a clue as to how to get them to work.

The nicest thing about having my own computer back, other than having a 17″ monitor again, is that I can set everything up the way I want it to look and the girls don’t need to be mucking about with it. No more trying to remember passwords. The only thing I’ll miss is the scrollable mouse that Memere has. I may have to invest in one for me.

One problem down, one to go. At this rate, I’ll know how to fix just about any Mac. That’s scary!
