1/2 small head of cabbage, sliced thin
1 small onion, sliced thin
3 cups uncooked macaroni
1 lb. ground beef
1 can cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1/2 can water
1 can mushrooms, stems and pieces
1/2 cup shredded cheese, cheddar or mozzarella
Add cabbage and macaroni to a pot of cold water. Cook until macaroni is done and cabbage is tender.
While cabbage and macaroni are cooking, brown ground beef in a frying pan. Drain. Add onions and cook until onions are clear and soft.
Add mushroom soup and water to ground beef. Add mushrooms. Heat through.
Drain cabbage and macaroni. Add meat mixture to cabbage mixture. Spoon mixture into a casserole dish. Bake at 325F until mixture is heated through (about 30 minutes). Add cheese to the top of casserole. Bake a further 15 minutes.
Let stand a few minutes and then serve.
