More Random Thoughts For A Random Day

Well, today hasn’t really been all that random. I did what I set out to do, which is unusual in itself. I picked up my meds, got the few groceries I’d planned to get, dyed my hair dark brown and supervised Petra while she set up a lamp and plant stand.

What’s more, I have clean clothes courtesy of Jess (who did some laundry today) and Memere (who helped when she got home from babysitting), clean feet now that I’ve gotten out of the shower and two cats who love ‘kitty hugs’ – stretching across my shoulders and putting one paw on either side of my shoulder and ‘hugging’ me.

I miss John. He’s off doing kid stuff, I guess, or family vacation stuff. I’m not surprised, really. His family does deserve to see him, being that he spent most of July in Mongolia (and got married there, too, but I haven’t heard the entire story yet.) John also periodically pops in here, reads my blog and makes some sort of observation that usually gets me smiling.

Other than overtaxing myself a bit on the shopping part (we were out for several hours), I feel pretty good. The lamp Glenda gave me was bigger than I thought it would be, but Memere and Petra have already made plans for rearranging the living room to accommodate the plantstand/lamp. One pane of glass is missing for one of the shelves, but I think I can find a suitable replacement at the Sally Ann. If all else fails, we can use the shelves elsewhere and I can get three 9″ plates and use those as shelves. Maybe something with gold trim to match the stand?

Everyone’s amused by the fact that I’ve dyed my hair again. I don’t mind “Arctic Blonde”, but when it’s mixed with enough dark brown to make it look like “Toronto Slush”, it gets depressing. I may not look younger and thinner, but I feel it. Funny how something as simple as that can change a person’s outlook.

I have one more little repair job to do and the bathroom will be right as rain, too. The girls have discovered that the connection between the pipe and the sink is leaking. I’m thinking that maybe a good coating of caulk will get it back to the way it should be. I’ll have to do it when there’s not much chance of the water being run. Maybe tomorrow night, if I can find the bathtub caulking I have around somewhere. It’s Dap, so I know it’ll work. Okay, so I’m biased. I used to fill the tubes with caulking, way back in another lifetime.

Petra’s already decided what courses she wants to take in high school – commerical cooking, cosmetology and carpentry. It’s an odd combination, I know, but it’s what she wants to learn how to do properly. I’m hoping that she’ll take at least one automotive course so that she’ll know how to change the oil and a tire or two. Memere’s not much on getting her hands dirty, so she didn’t even consider something like that as being ‘necessary’. She wants to edit films. That’s okay, too.

On the whole, today hasn’t been a bad day. I feel like I did a bit too much going out and not quite enough housework, but I have something to show for it at the end of the day, so all was not wasted. I think that’s about the best that anyone can hope for – if the end of the day wasn’t quite so bad as you’d thought it would be, that’s a plus. With luck, that feeling will hold until the end of tomorrow.
