Front Row Seats!!

Well, the neighbourhood had a bit of excitement last night. We got front row seats to a high speed chase that ended up with the drunk driver crashing through a fence and into a tree. It ended just across the street from us, so we got to see pretty much the whole thing. The ambulance was there to tend to the driver’s minor injuries and he was handed over to City Police for processing. The fire trucks came, too, and three tow trucks. The first one couldn’t pull the car out because the wheels were crooked. They called the dolly truck in, but I guess there was a problem with that, too, because they finally took it out on the flatbed.

We had police cars all over the place, at least half a dozen, both squad cars and ghost cars. It got really noisy here for a while, which I didn’t like, but things quieted down finally, and all the neighbours and their cats went back home. I doubt that they went to bed because they were all chattering madly about what had happened. Cheryl was sitting out on the front porch, waiting for Marie to come tell her all that had happened. Marie was up closer to the action, so to speak, and obligingly told Cheryl the details. Wonder if it’ll make the papers tomorrow?

On the downside, Cheryl got to meet the Listerine Sisters from down the street. Cheryl was politer to them than I would have been, that’s for sure. They only stayed long enough to see the tow truck take the car away and then they staggered off for another bout with the bottle. That’s when Cheryl came inside. Good thing, too. Casey was starting to get worried because he didn’t know where Cheryl was. And Munchkin was thinking that if Cheryl and Petra got to go out in the hoomin dark, she should be able to go out, too. Neither Cheryl nor Petra thought a great deal of that idea, much to Munchkin’s disgust.
